Worthy of Note Dr. Armstrong Keynotes 45-Nation Symposium in Cuba David G. Armstrong, DPM, PhD, MD, professor of surgery and director of the University of Arizona’s Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance, was the keynote speaker at the Inter- national Diabetic Foot Symposium held in December 2012 in Cuba. Helfand, DPM, with its Distinguished Service Award at its annual meeting in December 2012. The award was given in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the mission of the society. Dr. Helfand, a founder who served 14 years as a member of the board of directors of the Eastern Pennsylvania–Delaware Valley Geriatrics Society, is also a past president. He currently serves as the treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and completed three years as board chair. Dr. Helfand is professor emeritus at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and a member of the honorary staffs of Temple University Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He serves as a consultant to Temple University’s Institute on Aging and is past adjunct professor of medicine, Department of Medicine, Temple University School of Medicine. n Gateway to Care Elects Dr. Lepow to Board Gary M. Lepow, DPM, has been elected to the board of Gateway to Care. The organization’s mission is to facilitate access to adequate health care for uninsured and underinsured patients by establishing a mechanism for health-care agencies, health service-related coalitions, and advocacy groups to coordinate common administrative and service delivery requirements to provide a seamless service delivery system. Dr. Lepow, an associate clinical professor at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, is the founder and director of the podiatry service of Harris Health System in Houston. The podiatry service recently expanded to include a program for homeless patients. Dr. Lepow is the senior partner of Lepow Foot & Ankle Specialists. n
