CPME Update At-Large Member Positions Open on the Council The Council on Podiatric Medical Education’s Nominating Committee is seeking applications for three at-large positions on the council. CPME will hold closed-ballot elections at its October meeting to fill the positions. The positions are for three-year terms that are renewable up to three consecutive terms. Please refer to www.cpme.org for specific information regarding the council’s activities. The council asks each applicant to include in writing how he or she satisfies at least two of the following five eligibility requirements: • Has been active for a period of at least two years as a director of an approved podiatric residency program • Has been active for a period of at least two years as an academic administrator or a full-time faculty member at an accredited college of podiatric medicine or an accredited medical institution • Has demonstrated leadership within the profession or distinguished himself or herself as a practitioner • Has served actively on one of the council’s committees for a minimum of one full term • Has served on at least three CPME onsite evaluation teams to colleges of podiatric medicine, residency programs, or continuing education programs The application also is expected to demonstrate the candidate’s qualifications and experience in one of the following areas of need: • A current program director or podiatric faculty member of a CPME-approved residency program with experience as either a podiatric residency evaluator or a member of a standing or ad hoc CPME committee • A faculty member at an accredited college of podiatric medicine who: provides undergraduate podiatric education at a college of podiatric medicine or an affiliated institution; and has an active relationship with the college of podiatric medicine and its faculty ° ° 52 APMA News April 2013 • A podiatric physician who is involved in residency educa- tion and possesses experience with the function of the council, such as service as a CPME onsite evaluator or member of a standing or ad hoc committee of the council In addition to the minimum requirements outlined above, the candidate is encouraged to describe other podiatric and non-podiatric experiences he or she has had that strengthen the applicant’s submission. Individuals seeking election to the council must submit a curriculum vitae and an application letter that addresses both the requirements and at least one of the areas of need specified in this announcement. Council to Hold Spring Meeting The council will hold its spring meeting at APMA headquarters April 24–27. Included on the council’s agenda will be review of progress reports submitted by six colleges of podiatric medicine, consideration of continuing or new approval status of approximately 110 residency programs, review of the approval status of seven continuing podiatric medical education sponsors, and consideration of continued recognition of two specialty boards. Other noteworthy CPME agenda items are the review of comments from the community of interest in response to proposed revisions to the standards, requirements, and procedures for approving sponsors of continuing education; consideration of formal complaints against approved residency programs; and review of progress made on achieving objectives identified in the council’s 2011 self-study. Recommendations emanating from council committees, which completed their deliberations at meetings held in February and March, will constitute a significant portion of the CPME agenda. The Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards met February 20 by conference call. The Continuing Education Committee met March 9. The Residency Review Committee met March 7–9; it will conclude its business by conference call prior to the council meeting. The council’s Accreditation, Executive, and Budget Planning Committees will hold meetings April 24–25. The agenda for the spring meeting also includes election of a new chair-elect and vice chair-elect; elected officers will be installed at the conclusion of the council’s October meeting. n http://www.cpme.org
