Young Physicians’ Institute Matthew G. Garoufalis, DPM; Phillip E. Ward, DPM; R. Daniel Davis, DPM; and Sylvia Virbulis, DPM, joined 28 young physician members at the Young Physicians’ Institute. Held April 12–14 in Franklin, TN, at the headquarters of the Podiatry Insurance Company of America, the event provided relevant practice information for young physicians and offered an opportunity to network with peers, colleagues, and mentors. Young Physician Meeting with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCPod) 2013 Delegate Assembly Dr. Garoufalis traveled to the United Kingdom to represent APMA at the SCPod Delegate Assembly April 16–17. He spoke to the assembly about APMA’s Vision 2015 campaign and his “15 for 2015” challenge, in which he asked APMA The Society of members to give 15 Chiropodists minutes a week toand Podiatrists ward the objectives of Vision 2015. Midwest Podiatry Conference The Midwest Podiatry Conference was held April 18–21 in Chicago. Dr. Garoufalis, Dennis R. Frisch, DPM; Laura J. Pickard, DPM; and Glenn B. Gastwirth, DPM, attended. They met with the region’s leadership and provided updates on 50 APMA News June 2013 AMA/CMS Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) Seth Rubenstein, DPM; Tim Tillo, DPM; and Lloyd Smith, DPM, represented APMA at the RUC meeting April 25–28 in Chicago. They advocated for appropriate values for codes used by podiatrists. State Advocacy Forum The State Advocacy Forum was held April 26–27 in Detroit. Dr. Garoufalis, Dr. Ward, Dr. Davis, and Ira Kraus, DPM, were in attendance, along with representatives from 31 state components. The theme for the 2013 forum was “Vision for Success,” and the forum focused on how to advocate for and advance the podiatric medical profession at the state level. Nichol L. Salvo, DPM, director of the Young Physicians’ Program, met with Kristine O’Sullivan, secretary of the AOA Council of New Physicians in Chicago on April 19. They discussed APMA’s and AOA’s shared young physician issues and how they could be addressed collaboratively.
