Report from the APMAPAC Chair By Barney A. Greenberg, DPM Team APMAPAC=Commitment + Meaningful Donation + Political Action Team APMAPAC is gaining more strength this year thanks to the support of APMA members who understand the importance of supporting our friends on Capitol Hill. Both the donations and the percentage of members becoming members of Team APMAPAC are increasing. However, it is never enough! The National in Las Vegas was a terrific meeting, increasing the membership of Team APMAPAC. We educated our members about political action and gained members’ commitment to use eAdvocacy to express themselves to their elected representatives. As you read in Dr. Seth Rubenstein’s column in the July/ August issue, US Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced their version of the Helping Ensure Life- and Limb-Saving Access to Podiatric Physicians (HELLPP) Act, APMA’s signature physician recognition legislation (S 1318). APMA needs all members to redouble their efforts and to contact their senators and representatives to encourage passage of this long-overdue legislation. A highlight of The National was a fundraiser for our own Lee Rogers, DPM, cohosted by APMA President Matthew Garoufalis, DPM; President-elect Frank Spinosa, DPM; Vice President Phillip Ward, DPM; APMAPAC Immediate-past Chair Gerald Peterson, DPM; and me. In July, Dr. Rogers announced that he would again be seeking election in the 25th Congressional District in California. We had a great turnout and show of support for Dr. Rogers. You may recall that he came within 5 percentage points of unseating a long-term incumbent when he ran in the 2012 election. This year, Dr. Rogers has an even greater chance of being elected because the incumbent is retiring rather than seeking re-election.
