In the first year of MIPS, CPIA data may be reported simply by attestation (yes/no) and the CPIA category score constitutes 15 percent of the CPS. Table 2 provides a CPIA activity list with an example of measures that might be selected by APMA members in solo or small group practices. Future Directions As the QPP and MIPS evolve, CMS will continue to refine the measures available for physician use in the Quality category. Priorities include aligning measures across CMS programs (e.g., physician and hospital outpatient) and across payers (harmonizing measures across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers). CMS also seeks to emphasize outcome measures over process measures and to add patient-reported outcome measures. Regarding the CPIA category, CMS will be undertaking a study targeted at identifying approaches to seamlessly fold CPIA activities into the workflow of physician offices without sacrificing efficiency. CMS is also actively seeking stakeholder input into new topic or focus areas for CPIA measures.
