Meet the Candidates

continued from page 17

Seth A. Rubenstein, DPM
Candidate for Vice President

F

irst, let me say how grateful I am
for your trust and support and
for the opportunity to serve our
profession as a member of your Board of
Trustees. With humility, enthusiasm, and
your continued consent, I present myself as candidate for
the office of vice president of the American Podiatric Medical
Association.
You can expect me, as a member of your board, to be respectful and dependable, form opinions carefully, and be willing to change my mind as circumstances merit.
My past experience has instilled in me confidence and a
level of comfort, of sufficient depth to represent your interests
whenever the need arises. That experience includes serving as
chair of the Legislative Committee and as liaison to the AMA
RUC, the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement, and the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
We practice in a time of rapid change and great opportunity. Our association has embraced new technologies, initiatives, and programs to help our members meet today's demands and prepare for the future. The APMA Registry is one
such program whose importance cannot be overstated. I will
continue to support APMA's development of our registry,
which will enable our members to submit MIPS measures in
a cost-efficient manner. Eventually, the registry will provide
prospective data and enable APMA to demonstrate our profession's cost effectiveness and value to government and commercial payers.
As you know, legislative advocacy has long been a passion
of mine. Our current efforts to define DPMs as physicians
under Medicaid Title XIX and to seek equitable opportunities
for podiatrists at the Veterans Health Administration are built
upon past achievements. Success in these endeavors requires
tenacity, creativity, and nimbleness to act as opportunity presents. Your vigorous and generous support of these efforts is
equally important to our long-term success.
In another initiative, APMA is collaborating with professional associations that support shared legislative and health
policy goals. Such efforts add additional value to our membership by expanding our influence and broadening our own
world vision.
One of the emerging issues of our time is engaging and
enfranchising students and young physicians. Our current ef18 APMA News January/February 2018

forts are nothing less than an investment in our profession's
future. Once again, success relies on our mutual efforts to attract individuals to the profession and the association.
As vice president, I will continue to support programs and
policies that create value for our membership. I encourage you
to support APMA so we can continue to recruit and retain talented staff and consultants to assist the board with implementation of our strategic goals.
Thank you again for your support and trust. n

Candidate for Re-Election to the

s an incumbent candidate for
the APMA Board of Trustees,
my vision is to work together
to elevate podiatry to its rightful position in the medical community. We have all invested time and
effort in this profession, and our daily practices should be fruitful and enjoyable. If we all work together, we can overcome
many of the obstacles that stand before us and accomplish
this feat. I have always believed that "Together We Can."
Realizing education would be an important key to our
growth, I became a diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery [now the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery] in 1986 and a founding member of the American Society
of Podiatric Surgeons. I also have served as residency director
at New York Community Hospital since 1994. This position
gives me an even greater ability to extend my knowledge and
teach the younger podiatric generation.
As an APMA trustee, I have been actively working with the
Coding Committee as a special expert. I am presently the chair
of the Annual Meeting Committee. I have been the board liaison to the following committees:
Communications
Development
Health Policy and Practice
◆ Private Insurance Subcommittee
◆ Medicare and Public Payer Subcommittee
◆ DME Workgroup
Podiatric Seals
Public Health and Preventive Podiatric Medicine
Committee to End Health-Care Disparities
