The 98th House of Delegates
some issues was extensive, requiring that a reserve session of
the house be convened on Sunday evening following the installation of President Frisch.
Debate focused on the consolidation of certain member
categories (e.g., the permanently disabled member category
into the non-practicing member category), the qualifications
for and privileges associated with the senior and life member
categories, the division of authority between the house and the
board, and composition of the board. The house recommended changes and modifications to the proposed revisions that
were referred back to the committee for final editorial review
and will be made available online in advance of the 2019
House of Delegates. The committee is moving ahead with other changes, including revisions to the Administrative Procedures, creation of an APMA policy manual, and creation of a
House of Delegates operations manual. Procedural items will
be considered for adoption by the 2019 HOD.
Sarah Gostich, president of the
American Podiatric Medical Students' Association and a thirdyear student at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine,
addressed the delegates about
student debt.
Awards
During the House of Delegates meeting, APMA honors members and non-members alike who have made significant contributions to the profession. This year, APMA conferred the following awards:
Glenn B. Gastwirth, DPM, Leadership Award-
APMA Executive Director and CEO James R. Christina,
DPM, presented Crystal Holmes, DPM, with the Glenn
B. Gastwirth, DPM, Leadership Award. "I'm looking out
for the best interest of us all. Confrontation can lead to
resolution and leaves us with a better world," Dr. Holmes
said, reflecting on advocacy efforts. Dr. Holmes expressed
her thanks to the house for the prestigious award.

2018 meeting in Washington, DC.
