The Hernando de Soto expedition visited the village in 1541. Arkansas State Parks and the Arkansas Archeological Survey manage this archeological site and research station. Park interpreters offer site tours and educational programs throughout the year. When archeological excavations are underway, visitors on guided tours can observe. Parkin’s visitor center includes an exhibit area, archeological laboratory, and gift shop. Located nearby are the park’s picnic area, playground, standard pavilion (enclosed), and the Northern Ohio School, a historic one-room schoolhouse. The park is located in Parkin at the junction of U.S. 64 and Ark. 184 north.
