Arkansas State Park Guide 2008 - (Page 75) In our Junior Naturalist Program, children learn about the Bowie knife, steamboats, bluebirds, bats, and more (ArkansasKids.com). For teachers and students, the parks are unique learning centers where you can join trained park naturalists and historians in a variety of hands-on experiences. In these natural and historic settings, students can apply what they have learned in the classroom (ArkansasStateParks.com/ schools). Our parks comprise Arkansas’s largest, resource-based education organization. Many of our 40,000 programs and events are listed online at ArkansasStateParks.com/events or call 1-888-AT-PARKS for a printed copy. The legacy of Arkansas State Parks is to preserve our state’s diverse beauty and history so that all Arkansans and visitors may find emotional and intellectual connections to their heritage. Watchable Wildlife Arkansas’s six natural divisions provide habitat for a variety of wildlife and the state is on the Mississippi Flyway. Migrating ducks and geese, butterflies, and songbirds fly through the state in great numbers each spring and fall. Twentysix state parks are included in the national Watchable Wildlife program. Look for the binocular logo in this guidebook noting these locales that offer abundant habitat for wildlife viewing opportunities. For an excellent field guide, look for the Arkansas Wildlife Viewing Guide. Information in this guidebook is carefully compiled to ensure accuracy at time of publication.
