The cognitive behavioral focus in treatment has been applied to virtually every patient population, treatment setting, and treatment modality. Its application to the work of the speech and language therapist is a natural and logical extension of the CBT model. The program combines principles of fluency shaping with those of cognitive restructuring. This presentation will outline the critical phases of the program and will detail specific issues such as inclusion/exclusion criteria, numbers of treatment sessions required, and the role of caregivers in the treatment process.
