Two single-subject ABCA research designs compared the FONEMZ program to traditional articulation therapy. Two 4-year-old children were followed for 20 sessions. Production accuracy of a target phoneme, /l/ for subject one and /f/ for subject two, was tracked for each treatment method. Pre- and post-measures of phonological awareness skills were also completed. This seminar will help clinicians begin to understand and apply the 2007 ASHA position statement and technical report on childhood apraxia of speech. It will examine what we do and don't currently know about this particular diagnostic category. It will include discussion of differential diagnoses and treatment of this still somewhat enigmatic disorder. 1368 Poster Board 287 TH 3:00PM-4:30PM, Poster, CC/Hall G Breathing Constraints on Mean Utterance Length Throughout Life Brigitte Lalonde, U de Montréal, Montréal, Canada; Victor J. An innovative 15-point scale was developed to measure these skills. Results will be presented from preschool children who participated in treatment in which dynamic assessment was used as an outcome measure. Training will be provided in the implementation of dynamic assessment procedures and strategies will be discussed for documenting phonological change over time. Speech Sound Disorders in Children 1370 TH 8:00AM-9:00AM, Seminar 1 HR, CC/271-273 Speech Sound Disorders: Red Flags for Literacy Problems Jonathan Preston, Haskins Laboratories, New Haven, CT; Mary Louise Edwards, Syracuse U, Syracuse, NY This session first reviews research that that may be diagnostically useful in identifying which children with speech sound disorders are at greatest risk for literacy problems (based on language skills, subtypes, perception, speech errors, etc.). Additionally, data from a study on atypical speech error patterns will be presented to demonstrate why clinicians should attend to error types. 1362 Poster Board 281 TH 8:00AM-9:30AM, Poster, CC/Hall G Individual Differences in Understanding Speech Yu-kyong Choe, U of Massachusetts – Amherst, Amherst, MA; Tamiko Azuma, Arizona St U, Tempe, AZ; Julie Liss, Arizona St U, Tempe, AZ; Andrew Lotto, U of Arizona, Tucson, AZ; Pamela Mathy, Kennedy Krieger Inst, Baltimore, MD ASHA 2009 x Exhibits & pro gr am sEssions guidE
