ASHA Audiology Resources - (Page 3) Relevant…Topical…Peer Reviewed Assistive Technology Needs Assessment Cynthia Compton Conley, PhD, CCC-A This presentation provides you with a needs assessment flow chart to help you quickly and accurately assess a patient’s receptive communication needs so that you can recommend appropriate options. You will be able to— ■ assess and summarize each of your patient’s unique receptive communication needs ■ determine what technology would be most appropriate for meeting these needs ■ determine how to best couple auditory technology to your patients’ hearing aids ■ prescribe a treatment plan incorporating assistive technology and training Advanced level 2-hour audio CD and manual 0.2 ASHA CEUs (2005–8/3/2008) Item #0112795 $74 > > > ASHA member $99 > > > nonmember Cynth ia Com pton Conle y, Ph D, CC C-A Amplification and Dead Regions in the Cochlea Brian C. J. Moore, MA, PhD, F. Med. Sci, FRS Regions of the cochlea where there are no functioning inner hair cells and/or neurons, known as dead regions, have important implications for the fitting of hearing aids. Basilar membrane vibration in such regions is not transduced and does not lead to action potentials in the auditory nerve. This audio self-study describes the audiogram configurations that may be associated with dead regions and describes the application of the TEN test, which can be used to detect dead regions and to define their extent. Clinical applications of the results, including applications in fitting hearing aids, are discussed. Amplification and Dead Regions in the Cochlea Hearing Aid Outcomes in Older Adults Larry Humes, PhD, CCC-A, Editor These articles present the results of a longitudinal study of hearing aid outcomes in a group of elderly individuals. The focus is on self-perceived benefits of hearing aid use and how they can best be measured clinically. The study applied 20 different outcome measures and followed 134 participants for one year, 42 participants for two years, and 9 participants for three years. Hearing Aid Outcomes in Older Adults Larry Humes, PhD, CCC-A REPRINT FROM: Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR) Brian C. J. Moore, MA, PhD, F. Med. Sci, FRS You will be able to— ■ identify audiograms that may indicate the presence of dead regions ■ select appropriate levels and frequencies to use in the TEN test ■ apply the TEN test ■ assess the outcome of the TEN test to choose appropriate amplification for the client ■ examine the outcome of the TEN test to counsel the client Intermediate level 2-hour audio CD and manual 0.2 ASHA CEUs (2004–6/19/2010) Item #0112708 $74 > > > ASHA member $99 > > > nonmember You will be able to— ■ identify and describe the seven independent factors of hearing aid outcomes identified in the Indiana University study, as presented in the first of these three articles ■ define the term “acclimatization” as presented in these articles and explain its relation to outcome measures for hearing aid wearers ■ summarize the results of this research regarding recommendations of what outcome measures are appropriate and when in the process they should be assessed ■ describe the evidence presented from the study and how the evidence supports these recommendations Advanced level Articles from ASHA’s professional journals 0.2 ASHA CEUs (2004–7/1/2010) Item #0112711 $45 > > > ASHA member $60 > > > nonmember 1.888.498.6699 < < > > www.asha.org/shop 3 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Assistive+Technology+Needs+Assessment&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Assistive+Technology+Needs+Assessment&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Assistive+Technology+Needs+Assessment&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Hearing+Aid+Outcomes+in+Older+Adults&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Amplification+and+Dead+Regions+in+the+Cochlea&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Hearing+Aid+Outcomes+in+Older+Adults&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Amplification+and+Dead+Regions+in+the+Cochlea&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Amplification+and+Dead+Regions+in+the+Cochlea&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/eweb/OLSDynamicPage.aspx?Webcode=olsdetails&title=Hearing+Aid+Outcomes+in+Older+Adults&utm_source=asha&utm_medium=catalog&utm_campaign=MSDigAud08 http://www.asha.org/shop
