Fluency Working With School-Age Children Who Stutter Barry Guitar, PhD A A Working With Young Children Who Stutter and Their Families: Showing the Evidence for Practice Tommie L. Robinson, Jr., PhD, CCC-SLP When disfluency is present in a child age 2–5, clinicians must be prepared to respond to questions about the “whys” and the “hows” of their approaches to assessment and management. They must also be able to effectively counsel and involve families in the intervention. This program shows how evaluation and treatment approaches are linked to research, and illustrates how clinicians can build effective, evidence-based rationales for diagnosis and intervention. Clinical techniques, including counseling approaches, are explored, with an emphasis on engaging the family.
