eWorkshop
After completing this workshop,
you will be able to:
* describe and analyze the relative
advantages and disadvantages
of different components of AAC,
including the modes involved and the
types of access methods available
* list a variety of communication
functions that AAC should fulfill, as
well as some practical ways to achieve
those functions
* apply the skills you gained from the
course to a case study of a child with
intellectual disabilities, designing
an intervention, and justifying your
decisions
After completing this workshop,
you will be able to:
* describe the patterns of
communication in "emerging" and
"context-dependent" communicators
and recommend short- and long-term
goals for children with these profiles
* identify some of the tradeoffs with
aided AAC intervention (compared
to oral communication) and discuss
recommended practices for
decision-making when balancing
these tradeoffs
* develop a system (including symbol
set, vocabulary, access method, and
communication goals) targeting
long-term goals for two case studies
* discuss the roles of communication
partners in intervention, including
augmented input
* examine several intervention strategies
for providing augmented input
