Greenheck Adds Manufacturing Space ARLINGTON, Va.—Infrastructure spending fared well at the polls on Election Day as voters across the U.S. approved 696 bond referendums totaling $67 billion, the second-largest amount ever for a single election day. According to the newspaper, Bond Buyer, referendums were held in 41 states and 82% were approved. These included $9.95 billion in bonds for high-speed rail in California and $17 billion for train and bus projects in Seattle. In addition, voters in several California and Texas districts approved multibillion dollar school and community college bond issues, along with large bonds to rebuild major hospitals. Outlook Good for Commercial Refrigeration SCHOFIELD, Wis.—Greenheck Fan Corporation has broken ground on a 22,000 ft2 (2043 m2) addition to their Frankfort, Ky., manufacturing facility. This is the second addition since the plant opened in 1997. The added space will increase the plant capacity by more than 30% and provides better access to strategic southeast markets. The plant currently produces dampers and louvers for commercial, industrial, and institutional air control applications. AHRI Instituting Metrics Policy CLEVELAND—A study from the Freedonia Group says that world demand for commercial refrigeration equipment is expected to rise 4.6% per year, reaching $29.3 billion (U.S.) in 2012. The strongest growth is expected in Latin America and Asia, where population growth and improved standards of living will stimulate demand in food and beverage distribution, and retailing and restaurants. The U.S. will remain the largest market in the world, as replacement demand continues to create ARLINGTON, Va.—The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is starting a new metric (SI) policy for standards and guidelines, effective Jan. 1, 2009. The policy stipulates that when drafting new, revised, or reaffirmed AHRI standards, each new document shall have only one set of units, not dual units as in the past. The product section must publish a metric SI-only standard that includes metric (SI) rational units for all testing and rating conditions or it can publish two separate standards, one issued in metric (SI) rational units and the other issued in inch-pound (I-P) rational units. New n! Editio Standard 62.1-2007 defines requirements for ventilation and air-cleaning system design, installation, commissioning, and all O&M for spaces intended for human occupancy except single-family houses, some multifamily structures, vehicles, and aircraft.
