This information will also allow users of Upper Room UV irradiation, Overhead UVGI, or food process disinfection systems to anticipate photo discoloration or photo degradation of materials, and substitute materials that are resistant to UV . The proposed project will include bench-scale, medium-scale and full-scale fire tests for two types of rail vehicles: passenger rail vehicle and subway car. The testing of each rail vehicle will be considered a separate phase of the project, with Phase One testing a passenger rail vehicle and Phase Two testing a subway car. For the purpose of this document only the tasks to be conducted for the Phase One passenger rail vehicle are given to provide a framework for the project. A similar set of tasks will be conducted for the Phase Two subway car. Establishment of Design Procedures to Predict Room Airflow Requirements in Partially Mixed Room Air Distribution Systems The information resulting from this research project would be used to assist the designer in accurately estimating supply airflow requirements and predicting resultant space vertical temperature gradients. This is a natural sequence to the information and design guidance provided by the aforementioned UFAD design guide. The information would be available to all designers of UFAD systems and would standardize the supply airflow calculation procedure according to the degree of mixing maintained in the lower portion of the space. Establishing Benchmark Levels and Patterns of Commercial Building Hot Water Use We need a better understanding of how people use water in commercial and institutional buildings. Responders to this Request for Proposal should describe their proposed list of important types of commercial buildings that have significant hot water use, relate this to Table 7 of Chapter 49, and provide their justification for classifying and sampling these buildings. Effects of Fin Design on Frost and Defrost Thermal Performances of Micro-channel Heat Exchangers Justification for this research topic is based on the need to identify the root causes that penalize micro-channel heat exchangers with respect to conventional fin-and-tube outdoor coils, when these coils are used in heat pump systems operating under frosting outdoor conditions. The fundamental understanding of the heat and mass transfer characteristics of micro-channel coils during frosting and defrosting transient periods are still not well-known. Most of the results are based on a limited range of experimental tests in which fin design modifications effects are difficult to isolate and quantify [16- 18]. Part of the reason is the complexity of the phenomena and the difficulty of accurately measuring the fin base surface status, i.e., surface temperature, water droplet retained, and surface energy. From the literature review it seems that there is a lack of information about frost heterogeneous nucleation and frost growth rate on folded fin micro-channel heat exchangers during service of these coils close to the actual heat pump applications. Implementation of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Principles into Higher Education as an Integrated Decision Making Tool The research effort will focus on the “Implementation of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Principles into Higher Education as an Integrated Decision Making Tool”.
