Deer Ridge is made up of minimum- and medium-security facilities. from the baseline criteria. High output electronic ballasts overdrive the lamp current by approximately 25% as compared to standard electronic ballasts, reducing the number of lamps needed to achieve the required baseline footcandle levels. This measure results in an annual electric energy savings of 330,829 kWh per year. Combination Space/Water Heating via Condensing, Modulating Boilers. Space and potable water heating loads are met through the use of condensing, modulating gas-fired hot water boilers in a modular central plant configuration (one plant each for the medium and minimum campuses). A total of 12 boilers with a combined fuel input rating of 24,000 MBH (7 GW) provide the efficiencies realized by combining water and space heating components (all domestic hot water is generated by a plate-and-frame instantaneous heat exchanger). This arrangement results in fossil fuel savings of 49,100 therms (5180 GJ) and total annual cost savings of $49,996 per year. Laundry Heat Recovery (Dryers). Heat wheel air-to-air heat recovery units preheat dryer intake air using warm, saturated dryer exhaust airstream for the three 500 lb (226 kg) and one 200 lb (90 kg) pass-through, direct gas-fired tilting dryers in the laundry. An engineered heat recovery system diverts used rinse water from Wash Cycle 1 into a tank, which is then used as wash-fill water in Cycle 2; the wash water drain is routed through a heat recovery system. Recovering heat and water results in savings in natural gas, water, and sewer charges. In addition, condensing, modulating gas-fired water heaters are integrated into the system to provide final water heating. This system results in annual fossil fuel savings of 38,029 therms (4012 GJ) while reducing

annual operation and maintenance costs by $36,925 per year. Improved Roof Insulation. This measure improves ceiling/roof insulation in the “non-housing” building roof construction to a 4 in. (100 mm) polyisocyanurate (R-30), well in excess of the OEC’s requirement for R-19. In addition, the roof insulation for the “housing” buildings was established at R-30 to mitigate the effects of single pane security glazing. By increasing the code required minimum roof insulation, the design achieves annual electric energy savings of 3,785 kWh per year and fossil fuel savings of 5,123 therms (540 GJ).
