61% of Energy Wasted
LIVERMORE, Calif.-In 2012, the U.S. wasted
61% of all energy input into its economy,
making it just 39% energy efficient, according to Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory (LNL). Of the 95.1 quadrillion
Btus of raw energy that entered the U.S.
economy, only 37 quads were actually used.
For the past 10 years, LNL has calculated U.S. energy waste to be in the range
of 50% to 58%. LNL explained the jump
was mostly due to a change in the ways it
calculated the end use of the energy for

Heating, and Refrigeration Institute
(AHRI) has launched a new certification program for unit coolers, which are
typically used in refrigerated warehouses. This is AHRI's 39th certification program. The certified ratings for the unit

refrigeration plant has been developed
and delivered to a natural gas field in
Kansas. This air-cooled ammonia absorption refrigeration plant (ThermoChiller) chills 1 million standard cubic
feet per day of wellhead gas to -20°F

SAN FRANCISCO-Daikin Applied is now
using an Intel-based intelligent gateway
technology to connect its existing Rebel
rooftop units to the cloud and securely aggregate, filter and share data. The
technology predicts faults such as fan or
motor failures and alerts users when filters need to be changed based on usage,
not time. The system can sync with the
weather forecast and provide financial

SCHOFIELD, Wis.-Greenheck Fan Corporation plans to build a 150,000 ft2 (1400
m2) manufacturing facility in Shelby,
N.C., to enable continued growth of its
centrifugal, vane axial, and industrial fan (CVI) business unit, and provide

East Coast. The existing manufacturing

WASHINGTON-The U.S. Department of Energy has forecast that most households will pay more for heat this winter. Heating oil users will catch a slight
break, but still pay near-record prices to keep warm. Prices for natural
gas, electricity and propane should be
higher. Homes using natural gas for
heat will pay about $679. That is about
13% higher than a year ago but still 4%
below the average for the previous five
winters. Homes relying on electricity for heat, about 38% of the U.S., will
likely pay about 2% more for heat compared with last year. Source: DOE
