The Welcome Party is set in an exquisite oasis 17 floors above the city surrounded by 2.6 acres of landscaped gardens as the skyline shimmers. Admission to the Welcome Party includes free shuttle tickets for those interested in visiting Old Montreal (the old city) adjacent to downtown where one can experience 400 years of North American history. Fireworks will light up the port city as Montreal kicks off its Annual International Fire work display. $50. Shuttle service is available, and buses leave the hotel approximately every 10 to 15 minutes. Jazz Festival Sunday, June 26/5–7 p.m./Hyatt Regency Experience Montreal’s famous International Jazz Festival from the city’s best vantage point. The Host Committee has reserved the downtown Hyatt’s 4,000 square foot outdoor patio located directly on St Catherine street above the festival’s prime site. Montrealers love their “5 @ 7” (aka happy hour), and ASHRAE attendees gain exclusive access to this great locale. This is the perfect opportunity to see some of Montreal’s charm. The Hyatt is within walking distance of the Hilton and Fairmont. Tickets include two drinks and light hors d’oeuvres. $25 per person. President’s Luncheon Monday, June 27 President-Elect Ron Jarnagin presents his 2011–12 presidential theme. Certificates of appreciation to retiring Board members are presented, and the 2011-12 officers and Board of Directors installed. Spouses and guests are invited to attend. Tickets are required and are available for purchase. $35. Members Night Out Tuesday, June 28/6:15 p.m. reception, 7 p.m. dinner Fairmont, Le Grand Salon The Members Night Out begins at the city’s greatest and most gracious hotel—the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. Join fellow attendees for a wonderful dinner in the hotel’s ballroom. Following the dinner, cross Rene Leveque Boulevard to one of Montreal’s landmark high rises: Place Ville Marie. Long known for its cross shape footprint and revolving spotlight, Members will have exclusive patio access, known as Canada’s highest and largest rooftop terrace. $48. Admission to this private event includes three complimentary drink tickets, DJ music and a panoramic view of downtown Montreal with views up to 50 km away. Sustainability Project The Montreal Host Committee will leave behind a lasting sustainable footprint by designing and installing a solar thermal/heat recovery system for a local nonprofit that provides for the needs of the homeless. Contributions can be made in advance or on site. Cirque du Soleil—Totem Sunday, June 26, 4-8 p.m. Price: $120 (includes busing) Join us for the Cirque du Soleil production, TOTEM, which traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential. Technical Program The technical program presents a mix of papers and sessions on many applications-oriented sessions. About a third of the program consists of papers on a variety of topics. New for the conference is the Engineering Tools track that will seek to keep up with the fast pace of development in energy modeling and building information modeling programs. Also, the technical program seeks to address alternative technologies and net-zero buildings and balance those programs with HVAC&R fundamentals sessions. Tracks include: Refrigeration HVAC Systems HVAC Fundamentals and Applications Net Zero Energy Buildings Professional Skills Engineering Tools Commissioning Alternative Technologies ASHRAE Learning Institute ASHRAE Learning Institute offers nine instructor-led training opportunities, teaching real world application of new technologies. Presented are full day sessions on the 2010 edition of Standard 90.1 and Data Center Energy Efficiency. Half day sessions cover Energy Management, High Performance Building Design, Using 90.1 to Meet LEED®, 2010 edition of Standard 62.1 and IAQ Project Management. Keynote speaker is Rob “Waldo” Waldman—The Wingman—a former combat pilot, businessman and authority on leadership and sales. Waldman teaches associations and corporations how to build trusting, revenue producing relationships with their employees, partners and customers. While relaying his personal experiences as a combat decorated fighter pilot and businessman, he makes a striking parallel that is memorable and exciting and brings fighter-pilot energy into each story and illustration.
