Welcome to AHR Expo SHOW HOURS Survey Says Most See Strong 2014 NEW YORK-Optimism for improving economic and business prospects in the HVAC&R industry continues to grow, according to a recent ASHRAE/ AHR Expo survey sent to more than 1,000 HVAC&R manufacturers worldwide. According to survey results, 79% of the respondents said their prospects for business were either "excellent" (19%) or "good" (60%) for the coming year. The remaining 21% of the respondents felt prospects were "fair." These results reflect a significant improvement over last year's survey that found 70% of respondents expected the economy to be better in 2013 than 2012, while 3% predicted it would be worse. No one responding to this year's survey felt economic prospects would worsen in 2014. The same principles also are being applied to building energy use, where energy use reporting and open data impact market behavior and drive energy efficiency. The implications of the growing trend in disclosure policies are examined in a free session offered by ASHRAE at the 2014 AHR Expo. "Trends in Building Energy Disclosure: Increasing Energy Efficiency without Retrofits," takes place from 3 to 4 p.m., today, in the South Concourse, second See Energy, Page 6 NEW YORK-As part of one of the largest renovations in the country (inset above), the Javits Center has installed one of the largest green roofs in the country. At seven acres (2.8 ha) , the roof is only surpassed by Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Truck Plant final assembly building. Who Will Win Product of Year? NEW YORK-Ten companies offering a variety of new and innovative products have been selected as winners of the 12th Annual AHR Expo Innovation Awards. The winners will be honored at a special ceremony tomorrow at 1 p.m. in New Product and Technology Theater A. One of the 10 category winners also will be selected as the winner of the 2014 AHR Expo Product of the Year Award. Winners receive placards to display at their booths during the Show, as well as an etched crystal award to be displayed at their company's headquarters. In addition, Honorable Mention awards recognize 37 companies in the same 10 categories. The more than $12,000 generated by the entry fees will be donated to a charitable organization in the New York area. For more information, see Page 12. NEW YORK-Welcome to the 2014 edition of the International Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo). This year's Show completely fills the main convention hall at Javits Convention Center. In all more than 1,940 exhibitors are displaying products in more than 386,000 ft2 (almost 8 acres) of net exhibit space. This is about 6.5% larger than the last NYC Show in 2008. The exhibitors represent every facet of the industry and more than 30 countries. Clay Stevens, president of International Exposition Company, the Show manager and producer, said he thinks the growth of the Show is a byproduct of a dynamic industry. "The drive to conserve energy is fueling new products and technologies," said Stevens. "Codes and standards are responding to this. Controls and refrigerants also are changing," he said. "This industry is always on the move." Over the three days of the Expo, more than 60,000 people will be participating in the Show as an attendee or exhibitor. More than 30% of the attendees will be visiting for the first time.
