And only through working on the self can we begin to enhance our connectedness to others.” Harriet Goldhor Lerner Connection! When you first recite the word to yourself, what comes up in your mind? For many it may be the desire to connect with those closest to us in a deeper, more intimate way. For others, repeating the word may bring up the thoughts of their connection and relationship with the Divine. Others still may associate the word with connecting to our inner essence, our Divine Self. I truly believe that connection is an important human sustenance. We long to connect with those we meet briefly and those that are an innate part of our lives. I came across a definition of spirituality as “the art of making connections.” It also mentioned that we learn through the spiritual practice of connections. What a profound association! As each issue of aspire unfolds it is our deepest desire and mission that ‘she’ bring you articles and excerpts to re-connect you with YOUR divine essence. To re-connect you with the Divine source that is all around us. This issue’s Iron Butterflies article bu Birute Regine, aptly titled “Care-nect” (my new favorite word) shares that when our actions are filled with care, our connections to others is strengthened and our relationships are enriched. Susanna Hargreaves’ article “Keeping Your Spirit Alive” focuses on the connection that several New England women have created with their spirituality to create spiritual balance. Connection or care-necting knows no age limit. This will become clear as you read about 18-year old Sondra Clark on page 27. By age 14, Sondra had authored five books and raised over $75,000 for Aids orphans in Africa. What connects with your heart, your passion? As you’ll read on page 7, after several years of writing her “Dear Louise” advice column for millions of readers around the world, Louise Hay has decided to retire in this capacity. We here at aspire… along with many publishers and readers will miss her love and guidance. A special thanks to Louise for being a part of our journey and connecting with our hearts! As you go through each day, I urge you to make a conscious decision to truly connect with each person you come into contact with. Take the opportunity to truly ‘see’ each person beyond the labels and connect with their true essence. In doing so, you just may find a new light within yourself.
