It is published by Hay House (May 2008) and is available at all bookstores or online at: www.hayhouse.com essages from Spirit come to everyone. The challenge is committing to the inner work these transformative moments invite us to do. The mystical life, the active spiritual life, isn’t an easy experience. It takes courage and fortitude to maintain and nurture the link between our mortal selves and our immortal consciousness by having an active relationship with God. It’s so easy to forget who we are and why we’re here. It’s no secret that the world is a challenging and soul-destroying place at times. And at some point, we realize that faith always needs to be an action rather than just a philosophical idea. We must be faith, not think faith. Let me explain. We’re spiritual beings learning through human experience. Messages from Spirit are meant to enhance this, to be mystical lights illuminating our paths. Yet it’s important to know that they aren’t going to do the work for us or give us the definitive answers to everything. Rather, they point to the right questions to ask. They guide us toward self-awareness and contemplation so that we can become more fully realized and authentic beings. Spirit messages can be warnings and can also provide clarity and inspiration—they may even show us details of the future. And so they can become an essential part of our experience of connecting to all that is part of the One. Messages from Spirit are also an important entrance into the symbolic world of another kind of knowing. They maintain the bridge that shimmers between material reality and the mystery of the Great Unseen. Even with their inherent limitations . . . oracles, omens, and signs are magical doorways that allow a glimpse into the Light. Hopefully, seeing the Light will serve to wake us up and keep us conscious of our lifelong date with destiny and purpose. At the very least, we’ll know that our presence in this life and in the greater cosmic plan really does matter. So before embarking on a further exploration of the symbolic world—and since these ideas might still be new to you—I’d like to define some of the concepts you’ll need to know and the terms I use to describe them. (I used many of these words and ideas throughout the first part of this book, where context provided meaning; but as you begin to examine your own life, it’s important to clarify them. THE SPIRIT IN THE SKY (AND EVERYWHERE ELSE) I use the term Spirit to represent the essence of what we engage in Divine dialogue, or the sacred practice of divination. It signifies the complete wisdom and potential of the One God or Source, becoming known in the manifest world and in our personal experience. Spirit is the Divine living mirror in which we can inspect ourselves. We can see where we’ve come from, who we’ve become, and where we’re heading on our journey. There are many diverse words that you could use instead of Spirit, depending on your own belief system: the I Am Presence, the Sacred, Love, Light, Mind, Brahma, Nirvana, Cosmic Consciousness, the Great Unseen, All That Is, Infinite Higher Wisdom, or the Divine Matrix—or M perhaps names used by science, such as the Field, the Quantum Field, the Submanifest Order of Being, or the Mind of Nature. Or you can use my personal favorite, which was coined by scientist and author Gary Schwartz: G.O.D., meaning Guiding-Organizing-Designing intelligence. These are just a few examples, and they’re all interchangeable. I choose Spirit because of its mystical, poetic, and fluid quality. I prefer the language of spirituality and mysticism because I feel that it captures the human experience as an expression of the soul in an evocative and meaningful way. I see the world as I believe it’s meant to be seen—deep, complex, and rich with passion and meaning. Many years ago I heard someone say that “the All is in the small,” and I’ve held on to that poetic idea because it expresses so simply what all of this is referring to. I also like the word Spirit because it derives from the Latin root word spirare, which means “breath” or “to breathe.” It’s defined in the dictionary as the “vital principle or animating force within living beings.” So imagine that God has breathed life into the Universe, leaving a Divine higher intelligence in everything. This breath of God, called Spirit, is what animates the material world and permeates the entire Great Unseen that surrounds us. This intelligent force that’s directly related to the mystery of God becomes the eternal wisdom available to everyone. We’re all capable of reaching out into Spirit because we’re created and animated by it. It keeps us connected to all of life; it shows us the details of our personal individual contracts where free will, fate, and destiny intersect. For us to be aware of our Divine connection to all of Life through the medium of Spirit, we must awaken our consciousness and open our hearts and our capacity for compassion. And one of the ways in which we engage in this sacred conversation is through oracles. Just remember as you journey through this book that the more you dialogue with Spirit and receive its messages, becoming more awake and alert, the more you’ll know that loving-kindness is the key to all action. In Spirit we belong; in Spirit we are One. “This book offers a way to explore this world through stories and interactive exercises,” says Colette. “Miracles are everywhere and Spirit is whispering messages of Divine guidance and love to you whenever you’re willing to listen.” www.aspiremag.net 17 http://www.hayhouse.com http://www.aspiremag.net
