Engines, Composites Spearhead Green Engines are taking the lion’s share of MRO, and that’s a good thing, as fuel prices are hitting operators in the purse and global warming is hitting them politically. Better engines are the key to both, as is use of composites to save weight. More composites means a need for more repair capability, and there’s clear evidence here at MRO 2008 that the composites community is stepping up to meet the challenge. Budget pressures mean it’s more important than ever to keep military aircraft aloft, sometimes beyond their planned service life. The challenges of tying MRO to the warplane design process will be discussed at MRO Military here this week. And, new this year, there’s a whole new conference on aircraft interiors.
