Celebrating 100 years - 194

We will continue to see advancements

in tools and technology. Our new
tools will help increase productivity;
they will be lighter than the tools we
use today. Tools will become more
comfortable to use. Wall and ceiling
contractors will pay more for tools to
help increase productivity of a smaller
workforce and to help reduce injuries
from repetitious activities.

By 2028, the EIFS applicator industry

will continue to experience severe labor
shortages as skilled tradesmen continue to retire and younger tradesmen
are not replenishing the industry as
quickly as the attrition rate. This will
threaten the viability of the EIFS wall
solution until the market recognizes
that there are other, more efficient
ways to construct EIFS walls. This
leads to the near-dominance of prefabricated EIFS panels as the default
method through which the product
will be applied to walls. In addition,
the industry will develop faster drying
technology that will enable application
to be completed faster.
Lastly, advancements in technology
will leverage the already strong value
proposition of lightweight, energy efficient cladding solutions by making
EIFS walls even lighter and more

energy efficient within the decade,
driving an even greater movement
toward green building technologies.

Industry challenge and changes

in the
next 10 years will be "versatility" of the
drywall finisher in taking on a larger
role on the job site. Also, an industry

our people are around to deliver quality
finishes to endure the test of time. The
frugality of the younger generations
will see their way clear to understanding quality is worth the investment in
top-line talent. Our biggest challenge
will be to acclimate to the increasing
automation methods sure to come.
Embracing these methods as further

The most significant change in our industry over
the next decade will be labor and management

issue and restoring the industry's position in

they simply go away.
-Finishing Chicago
The industry will continue

to develop
products and systems that require less
field labor in response to the shortage

of skilled labor and the overall increase
in health care costs. Unitized, modular construction and incorporation of
3-D printing will be more common
as a means to reduce the required
field labor.
Emphasis on data tracking will
continue to be more pervasive for
the remaining skilled labor in order
to improve efficiency and reduce
workplace injuries, which will create
privacy concerns. The labor market will
adapt to changes to current marijuana
and immigration laws along with
the additional effects of the ongoing
opioid crisis.
An increase in demand for products
and services that support walkable
communities and urban revitalization
projects is expected. Construction
financing for those projects will be
influenced by both the individual
consumer and government's ability
to address adequately previously incurred debt.
-Kegler, Brown, Hill & Ritter
Historically the construction industry

has always been the great equalizer
for human rights and dignity. The
construction industry has historically
represented a ladder for minorities and
immigrants coming to the United
States. African Americans, Italian
