the woodworking fabricated
and installed for the project
included a pre-finished, quartered Mahogany bar and back
bar with crotch Mahogany
veneer panels; 16-foot tall
painted display cabinet with
glass doors; paint grade entry
door unit; fireplace surround;
painted vanity cabinets; and
paint grade Poplar running
trim, wainscot and pilasters.
The 20,000 square foot
project started design in
February 2011 and was completed in January 2013.

While the owners' objective was to renovate the
entire building, the members
lounge and the formal dining
room were their highest priority. The members desired a
rich, traditional and timeless
aesthetic. "The main consideration was to make a link
with the styles and expression of the traditional design
and detailing of the historical
southern city where we're
located," explains Ralph
Campbell, general manager
of the club.
The team put together
to conduct the renovation
included the architectural
firm of LS3P Associates Ltd.,
located in Charleston and
the woodworking firm of Low
Country Case & Millwork, Inc.,
an AWI member firm located
in Ladson, South Carolina.

Extraordinary Views
The aesthetic of the new
interiors reflects the rich
traditional heritage of the
city, with traditional mouldings and high-end finishes.
"The existing building did
not take advantage of the
extraordinary site and views,"
points out Richard Bing, AIA,
LEED AP of LS3P Associates
Ltd. "This was rectified in the
renovation with the addition
of new large windows while
featuring the existing windows to their fullest extent."
Now members can enjoy the
incomparable views of the
city's harbor and historic sites
in and around the harbor.
