The woodworking firm
supplied the paneling, desks,
kiosk, baseboards, entrance
wall, casework, conference
tables and reception table for
the project. A majority of the
items were produced from
rift cut Red Oak and were
blueprint matched.
According to Jim Hoff
of Substance Architecture
Interiors Design, the design
of the feature wall, desk
and kiosks were based on
the design of the Vancouver
Convention Center.
The building contains
complete high definition digital video capabilities, a spacious locker room, training
room, post-game interview
room, office complex with
meeting rooms, an auditorium and an 11,000 square
foot weight room that greatly
impressed the players.

Jeff Sheeks of Huston
Millwork reports that the
wood block design and structure featured on the wall at
the entrance, the kiosk wall
and the reception desks
were the most challenging
aspect of the project. “These
featured various sizes of
block wood that had to be
put together like a puzzle and
were composed of many intricacies in making the blocks
into a design.”
Huston did the design
and detail work for the wood
pieces for the wall, kiosk and
desk, he adds. “The facility
was opened on time and
within budget. This particular
project had an extremely
aggressive timeline which we
were able to meet.”
Hoff agrees that the
aggressive timeline and
special technique required
to install the individual wood
blocks on the various components were difficult.
“Huston had an exceptional working relationship with
the architect,” notes Sheeks.
“The firm was very helpful
and maintained the intent of
the structure but also gave
us flexibility in executing the
design.”
