taught me about pencil erasers.
They have a high coefficient of
friction but low abrasion. Taking a
pencil eraser to a mystery stain will
often tell if it is a superficial mark
or if it is really in the laminate.
6. “How was I supposed to know?”
4. “There are cracks everywhere!”
This is a quote from a panicked
customer. There were cracks all
over the backsplash of his newly
installed cabinets. After his brief
description I asked him to remove
the covers from the electrical outlets. There he would find the beginnings of all the cracks. Moral of
the story? Never cut out an inside
corner without a radius. Never.
5.
“Is this a defect in the laminate
or a mark?”
My friend, Mike Weddington
I now keep a copy of the
Architectural Woodwork
Standards by my desk. Appendix
B Section 11 is often quoted. Our
company does over 300 luncheon
presentations per year. At each
HPDL presentation we recommend the NEMA LD3-2005 standards and the AWS.
The above is only a small sampling
of problems and solutions. More could
be said regarding proper substrates,
storage, transport, postforming and
maintenance. I welcome hearing from
you on either your pesky problems or
sure fire solutions (tdamiano@abetlaminati.com).
