The woodworking firm is
particularly proud of the first
floor lobby. "Chamberlain
Companies used five materials that usually don't come
together to fabricate what is
the focal point of the entire
project - Bamboo, Maple,
Lumicor, stainless steel and
solid surface," says Janco.
"The clean, curved lines
designed by SBA allowed us
to put together these materials in a way that felt organic.
The way the Bamboo was
fabricated and installed at different projecting curves and
angles adds an exceptional
amount of visual interest to
the lobby."
The architects find the
check-in desks to be the most
noteworthy. "These desks are
beautiful and amazing," says
Royer. "They are enormous
pieces of millwork, yet they
don't look it and they feel as
if they are a part of the building. They are large enough to
accommodate five staff work
stations, with room for two
people (patient and family
member) to stand side by
side at each station. The only
difference between the two
is that the first floor desk is
a convex curve, and the second floor desk is a concave
curve."
