standards as it develops
its Next Generation of
Architectural Woodwork
Quality Standards through
ANSI's voluntary consensus
based development process.
The AWI Technical
Committee is developing
architectural woodwork
standards based upon two
fundamental concepts,
product performance and
aesthetic measures. By doing
so allows specifiers choices
for the appropriate selection
of woodwork products based
upon intended functionality
(duty level) coupled with
appropriate choices for
a product's aesthetic
appearance (Premium,
Custom or Economy).

The Next Generation
This provides design
professionals flexibility to
deliver the best product value
matched to the customer's
specific use and needs. To
help specifiers coordinate
and update construction
documents, each Section
of AWI's Next Generation
Standard mirrors the
MasterFormat specification
numbering system.

In the near term, the
first Section 06 20 00, Finish
Carpentry (Installation)
is scheduled for ANSI
canvas in late 2017. In
2018, four (4) Sections are
targeted for ANSI canvas,
06 41 00 Architectural
Wood Casework, 12 32 00
Manufactured Casework, 12
35 00 Specialty Casework and
12 36 00 Countertops. Seven
other woodwork sections are
scheduled for ANSI canvas in
2019.
