All material choices were
made with the summer,
nautical theme in mind.
The majority of the project
woodwork was painted
white, with accents in clear
finish, dark colored woods
(stained Fir, Mahogany),
dark-painted accents (doors).
The exception to this was in
the main bar and restaurant,
where all wood finishes- wall
paneling, cabinetry, doors,
ceiling trim, were stained Fir.
All countertops were stone,
either granite or marble.
The coastal Massachusetts
waterfront location presented
both flooding and hurricane
concerns. A concrete sea
wall at garage level was
constructed to help resist
coastal flooding during a
storm surge, and primary
public spaces were elevated to
first floor level. At the first floor
deck, ten-foot-high doors and
windows designed for impactresistant coastal applications
were installed. In the guest
rooms, vinyl-framed impactresistant windows and sliding
doors tested to withstand
hurricane-force weather allow
plenty of light into the rooms.
Teamwork
To work past the
challenges, the woodworking
team "helped with design
development of the
ornamental stair including
structural design," says Nunn.
"We worked closely with the
designer who was always
willing to listen to different
ways to achieve the same
look. At the peak of installation
we had 21 people on site."
