Intricate Items
Many intricate woodwork
elements were part of the
project. ISEC reports that the
art display platforms were
the most intricate. "They
were fabricated to fit over
existing planters in the lobby
and completely changed the
appeal of the lobby," says
Kershner.
Dzakowic says the
concierge check-in pods are
the most intricate. "These
were developed and built
per our custom design with
multiple compound curves.
Various building techniques
and wood materials were
used to achieve the signature
check-in guest experience.

Fletcher agrees that the
valet, check-in and concierge
pods in the entry / lobby
are noteworthy because
of "the compound radius
design feature, which was
very challenging to achieve
while maintaining a natural
flow in the graining of the
wood." Also challenging, he
continues, were the lobby art
platforms / benches. "These
were a sizeable feature
which was designed to cover
up concrete planters while
providing a venue that would
intermix the opportunity to
display art while offering
multiple quiet spaces to sit
and relax. Sketch face veneer
platforms and benches
helped achieve this. These
products were challenging
due to the size and flow
of the existing concrete
planters that were being
covered. We had to consider
not only the design of these
platforms and benches, but
also the structural ability to
support the art that would be
displayed on them."

The Bamboo ceiling in
the Naupaka Restaurant
also provided a challenge,
Fletcher adds, as 2,000
square feet of natural twoinch diameter Bamboo
panels were alternated in
direction to create a square
basket pattern. "Sourcing the
raw Bamboo in the quantities
needed was a challenge
as it needed to be dried
and fire rated. Achieving
the design required several
necessary drawing and
mockup submittals before
we settled on the size of the
Bamboo, orientation of the
panel pattern, spacing of the
Bamboo and the transition
detail from the panels to the
solid Iroko coffer frames."
For The Resort Group, the
lobby insert column ribbons
that reached all the way to
the penthouse level are the
most noteworthy element.
