Elearning - Winter 2005 - (Page 8) News Learn.com Announces $40 Million Software Grant Program Learn.com, Inc. announced a $40 million software grant program to support the National Education Plan released in January by the Department of Education. The Learn.com Software Grant will assist American educational institutions with their efforts to bring blended learning to their campuses, while extending their reach using the World Wide Web. “We believe that providing cutting edge and quality tools to promote lifelong learning through the proper academic channels can help build strong, educated communities, which in turn promotes economic opportunity,” said Jim Riley, President and CEO of Learn.com. “We believe that facilitating these institutions’ ability to extend programs to e-learning based delivery will allow them to leverage already overtaxed assets including faculty and facilities. Budgeting should never be a barrier to quality education.” Learn.com grant recipients will receive single-user licenses for the company’s CourseMaker Studio authoring suite, an e-learning development and delivery tool that enables the creation of full screen, fully synchronized interactive multimedia with “streaming” graphics, animation, text, and audio. Finished courses can be delivered over the Internet and Intranet using minimal bandwidth or via CD-ROM. CourseMaker Studio is ideal for Subject Matter Expert (SME) authoring or high end developers. Learn.com will donate up to 10,000 CourseMaker Studio licenses with retail value of $3,995 each. Eligible institutions are limited to K-12, colleges, universities, and vocational schools based in the United States. For more information visit www.learn.com or call 954 233-4000.
