Elearning - April/May 2008 - (Page 12) News At Cisco, Collaboration Is Key CIO Rebecca Jacoby has been the point person for rolling out intensely collaborative technologies at Cisco Systems, Inc. The transformation, according to a report on the Website www.informationweek.com, is “as radical as any in the company’s 24-year history.” To do so, Jacoby says, Cisco is making itself the test bed for the next generation of collaboration tools that are coming from “the consumer space” rather than being initiated by IT. Those tools will reflect Cisco’s growing telepresence. The report says that Jacoby is an enthusiastic user of video blogs, but its pervasive use at a company as large and as old as Cisco is probably unusual. Jacoby calls it “creating an environment of directed participation,” in which the tools already being used by Cisco employees are adapted, refined, and sharpened to drive innovation and growth. One of the projects is creating an online communications “center of excellence” where new collaboration tools can be designed and tested. These include video, wikis and vlogs.
