Behind the Chair - Winter 2008 - (Page 2) Hello Everyone“No matter how far away I am, remember I am always right by your side.” When you travel as much as I do, phone calls and text messages sometimes have to do the job of a big hug back home. Every night when I lay down to sleep in a hotel bed, I always reach over to my phone and send each of my children a special “tuck-in message” made up of these words “no matter how far away I am, remember I am always right by your side”. When I was thinking about my letter to all of you, this message to my children came to mind. At a time when we are all struggling with a down economy, our nation is at war and our personal financial security is at risk, we’re feeling like so many things we knew to be true really aren’t. I remember when September 11th happened and I couldn’t figure out why I kept crying for weeks. It took a long time to understand my emotions, but when I finally did, I realized that my tears were of fear. So I had a choice. I could either live in the fear of the unknown or I could fight the fear by continuing to board airplanes and keep on moving my life forward. You all know the choice I made. “Make it a habit.” Clients will continue to find their way to your chair, but you have to make it a habit to service every client as though they are each royalty, giving them your brightest smile, the best cut and color they’ve ever had and the best client care you’ve got in you. Make it a habit to continue educating yourself on the latest trends, new looks and how to create that perfect change for your client. Make it a habit to have a positive outlook and attitude even when all the news is bad. “When we are challenged, we find our character.” When we are challenged, we find our character. The cream will surely rise to the top and you are a BTC member. You have made us a habit which demonstrates you care about your career and every client sitting in your chair! And, we have made you a habit—a habit you can always count on. We’ll be here to offer you a helpful tip each morning to start the day, show you the latest education and trends, teach you how to get more clients and more out of the clients you already have, and most importantly, we’ll be your text message at the end of the night when you’re feeling alone and down and need a friend to pick you up. We all know the economy is seriously affecting our business right now—and you have no control over that. But you do have control over whether you’re pre-booking every client, whether you’re trying to sell change to each client or offering a precision cut which requires them to be back in your chair every 6 weeks instead of the 8 to 10 they’re trying to stretch it to.
