Annual Report 2008 - (Page 12) 3D Design & Modeling Planning & Bridge Selection Analysis EMPOWERING INFORMATION FLOW THROUGHOUT THE ASSET LIFECYCLE BRIDGE INFORMATION MODELING (BrIM) The longer a bridge exists, the greater the need for accurate information, and BRIDGE INFORMATION MODEL Rehabilitation Construction Planning Fabrication Operations & Maintenance Construction the higher the cost penalty for poor interoperability. In fact, studies show that up to 40 percent of engineering time can be wasted locating and verifying critical information. Bridge Information Modeling, or BrIM, is an innovative new approach to bridge engineering, project delivery, and operations that brings valuable “federated” bridge information to a range of stakeholders involved in the bridge lifecycle — from project conception to rehabilitation. With accurate, up-to-date information in hand at every step, the bridge community can reduce risk in project delivery, optimize best practices, and ensure well-maintained, safer bridges. DELIVERING CONTINUOUS INNOVATION IN DESIGN PLATFORMS GENERATIVECOMPONENTS GenerativeComponents is enabling leading architects and engineers around the world to deliver inspired sustainable structures that are freer in form and use innovative materials and fabrication approaches. This unique software captures and exploits the critical relationships between design intent and geometry. It opens a world of new possibilities, yet lets users work more productively than ever before. Designs can be effectively and freely refined “generatively” by either dynamically modeling and directly manipulating geometry, by applying rules and capturing relationships among architectural elements, or by defining complex forms and systems through concisely expressed algorithms. LEVERAGING OPEN DATA MODELS AND INTEROPERABILITY OPENPLANT Bentley is demonstrating its commitment to open standards by launching OpenPlant, a generation of products completely built on the ISO 15926 data model. By enabling this breakthrough in interoperability, OpenPlant helps organizations develop more sustainable designs, harness distributed innovation, and therefore compress project schedules and time to market. OpenPlant software is uniquely able to deliver full collaboration between disparate systems, distributed project teams, and enterprise IT environments. This empowers engineers to contribute and operate seamlessly regardless of lifecycle stage, where they are located, or what systems they are using. 13
