Annual Report 2008 - (Page 14) Bentley Solutions ROADS Transportation authorities and engineering consultants around the world depend on Bentley road solutions. In North America, Bentley software serves as the standard for 47 of the 50 U.S. state departments of transportation, the FHWA, USDOT, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With a growing focus on the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure — solving safety issues and congestion problems — the industry is changing rapidly. Throughout this change, Bentley road solutions remain the software of choice. They are also presently being put to the test in developing countries, where massive new-build transportation projects begin every day. Our portfolio for road design and engineering offers a comprehensive, interoperable toolset for roadway infrastructure development. Bentley also offers software for transportation operations and maintenance used by many agencies/owners of ground transportation systems for over-height and over-width vehicle routing and permitting. SOLUTIONS IN ACTION: THE K90/K157/P157-2 INTERCHANGE Vela VKE Consulting Engineers (Pty), Ltd. and Mokgawa, Mtshali & Associates partnered up to design the K90/K157/P157-2 interchange near Johannesburg International Airport. Faced with tight schedules, limited land availability, and height restrictions due to aircraft approach and takeoff zones, the design team chose Bentley to complete the complex task. MicroStation, GEOPAK Civil Suite, and Descartes allowed the team to work on different elements of the design simultaneously, facilitating on-time completion. And it helped create a single master design, giving the administration team access to design information needed to resolve issues. Afterwards, the team continued to use GEOPAK to help create 3D models that confirmed the integrity and accuracy of the design, and illustrated the end product to interested parties. 2006 BE Award Winner Vela VKE Consulting Engineers (Pty), Ltd.
