To compete, manufacturers worldwide need to drastically cut production costs while managing more projects of increasing scope and complexity, multiple product series, shortened product lifecycles, and changing markets. Bentley offers a comprehensive solution for the factory lifecycle. The Bentley digital factory solution comprises an integrated network of digital models, methodologies, and toolsets that integrate the planning and design of manufacturing facilities with the manufacturing process. Bentley solutions integrate process and factory planning data and allow multi-disciplinary coordination and collaboration. They help to control costs throughout the entire factory lifecycle: design, construction, operation, and renewal. SOLUTIONS IN ACTION: GM TOLEDO TRANSMISSION PLANT This recent General Motors expansion project includes 275,000 square feet of facility renovation and 475,000 square feet of new construction. A large multidisciplinary team comprised of architects, engineers, contractors, detailers, and fabricators from a number of companies collaborated to design and build the facility. GHAFARI Associates used Bentley’s integrated BIM solutions and ProjectWise collaboration servers to design and coordinate major facility systems, develop 3D models to integrate these systems, and eliminate thousands of design conflicts prior to construction, by synchronizing construction documents and installation drawings for architectural, structural, and MEP systems. 2007 BE Award Finalist General Motors, GHAFARI Associates, L.L.C.
