Annual Report 2008 - (Page 22) Gas Bentley Solutions OIL AND GAS The oil and gas industry has experienced significant change over the past ten years including increased regulatory scrutiny, increases and fluctuations in the price of crude oil, more complex reservoir ownership arrangements, and rapid development of new exploration technologies. To keep pace, the industry is pushed to build new facilities and get them operational as quickly as possible. The Bentley solution for oil and gas offers the most comprehensive set of products in the industry. From mapping the area and preparation of new drill site locations through to design, construction, operations, and maintenance of gas processing and oil production facilities and complex refineries, Bentley has a specially configured set of applications that form the oil and gas digital plant solution. The backbone of the Bentley oil and gas solution is the data — input once, use many times. This solution leverages a data warehouse specifically designed to capture engineering data at any stage of the facility lifecycle. SOLUTIONS IN ACTION: USINSK REFINERY With a capacity to process 1 million tons of crude oil per year, the Usinsk Refinery wanted to increase its throughput to 1.3 million tons. The Giprokauchuk design team’s challenge was to optimize the selection of pipes, valves, and fittings depending on pipeline classes within Bentley’s PlantSpace.The project populated a component database with information about pipeline strength and longitudinal stability, to enable the software to appropriately determine required insulation thickness and selection of heat insulation materials. The software was also configured to issue detailed reporting within the refinery.
