Annual Report 2008 - (Page 32) MASSAR CHILDREN’S DISCOVERY CENTER DAMASCUS, SYRIA The Children’s Discovery Center will be the heart of a new educational program — Massar. The center will offer science-based, hands-on experiences that will empower young Syrians to contribute actively to building their future. The design for the center was inspired by the 2008 BE Award Nominee Henning Larsen Architects Massar Children’s Discovery Center Syria local Damask rose. This unique design created many challenges. The development from initial sketch to defined geometry was aided by the capabilities of GenerativeComponents,which enabled the team to model the petal design and made the complicated project realizable. AUTOROUTE EST-OUEST ALGERIA The goal of the project was to create a new connection road in order to sustain the Algerian population and improve the quality of life. Bentley civil products (MXRoad family) helped the team design new roads where nothing existed before. These roads help develop and reconnect 2008 BE Award Nominee STE SRL Autoroute Est-Ouest Algeria new employment centers. Bentley MX Solutions made it easy for the team to make changes and to determine if different project solutions would produce the required results. Streamlining of the workflow allowed the project to be designed efficiently, on time, and on budget. ANTIPOLO CITY WATER SYSTEM PHILIPPINES Manila Water needed to improve the performance and reliability of Antipolo Network System in order to meet the need for the anticipated rapid growth of the area. The use of Bentley’s WaterGEMS and HAMMER saved the organization time and money and helped to overcome the 2008 BE Award Nominee Manila Water Company Antipolo City Water System Philippines design difficulties of the hilly and rolling terrain. Manila Water also successfully implemented a water service connection scheme for low-income customers. This project has helped to improve the health of the people in the communities, and statistics show that it prevented outbreaks of illnesses because of the improved sanitation. 33
