The 6000square-foot building, with a project cost of $1.8 million, will create a new home and high-tech exhibit space for Holocaust survivors to tell their stories, and provide a human rights education and resource center for the state of Maine. It also includes classrooms, offices, and a renovated ser vice point location. The building presented many spatial and geometric challenges. With a 3D model, the entire team could view these areas together and discuss a more integrated manner of resolution and the pros and cons of continued development. The team used Bentley Architecture to model the complex intersections and curved angles accu- rately, which helped the designers and engineers identify early on the specific locations that might have been problematic and helped to avoid a duplication of effort in solving them. Interior material ideas were often tested on the model, and output was quickly generated to follow the effect of a par ticular decision through the design. This B allowed investigation of many more design options and understanding of the qualities and aesthetic elements of the materials that were being suggested for a particular space. I BUILDING MANAGED ENVIRONMENT Property Change Programme for Barclays Bank plc. Barclays Facilities Management In 2005, Barclays Bank carried out over 1000 projects costing in excess of £100 million. All drawing data, which included more than 15,000 plans, was scanned and uploaded into ProjectWise, which now holds over 550,000 proper ty documents for the firm. The goal was to allow in-house assignment managers to better collaborate with third-par ty suppliers to deliver projects on cost on very tight schedules. The firm used the ProjectWise administration tools to tailor each rollout to suit the project process by creating specific environments for each. Additional attributes were added for each rollout so the architect and contractor combination could be selected. The design team tracked the progress of projects using the ProjectWise saved searches. These were set up for each rollout, making it easy to view the state of each project at the click of a button. Barclays Facilities Management uses ProjectWise to collaborate in a secure manner with a design team spread throughout the United Kingdom, and to get away from a culture of distributing project information by e-mail. The firm now has one version of the truth; workflows allow it to track the progress of projects; and the search facility allows it to locate information in seconds and then save the search criteria.
