The Year in Infrastructure 2007 - (Page 13) Le Sharq, Office Tower Competition jmarchitects The Le Sharq office tower in Kuwait was designed by jmarchitects to reflect the dynamics of both client aspirations and function. Featuring five distinct office zones arranged vertically throughout 28 floors, the tower is accessed through a triple-height office entrance foyer with restaurant and retail functions below and a conference mezzanine above. Major challenges for this $8 million project included restricted site conditions and a small footprint. A holistic, integrated design approach works with the natural environment to create a comfortable, low-energy building that remains visually exciting. Bentley’s BIM solutions enabled a single model for concept, design, and animation and visualization so changes in design could be accommodated quickly. Gayatri Park Hyatt John portman & associates The Gayatri Park hyatt in hyderabad, India, will be a superdeluxe, five-star hotel. Envisioned as a seven-story building, it will have a lower and upper lobby plus four floors of guest rooms topped by two floors of high-end serviced apartments. A dramatic atrium will rise through all seven floors. Bentley’s BIM solutions allowed the study of massing and forms at an early stage, which helped the project team ensure that the design stayed within the many height and set-back restrictions. In addition to facilitating communications with the owner and external consultants, 3D modeling enhanced communications and collaboration internally within the architectural firm. BIM eliminated traditional labor-intensive 2D drawing, facilitated the cost-effective use of personnel, and permitted the architects to focus their time on design and service activities.
