The Year in Infrastructure 2007 - (Page 20) Bim fOr Building engineering New Dewan Undangan Negeri Building Bina puri sdn Bhd Reinforcing the image of strength and stability, the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) building in Malaysia will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the Dewan state legislative assembly and its members. The complex is configured in a star formation with nine radiating points. Rising to a height of 27.5 meters, each section of the star will have a separate pyramid roof. The center of the building is a massive atrium framed by nine massive arches that support the DUN hall nearly 40 meters above. The arches merge with intricate floor beams creating a tree-like effect within. Bina Puri Sdn Bhd used MicroStation and Bentley Architecture 2D drafting and 3D modeling capabilities to design, visualize, and analyze the building’s many complex structures. Because of its interoperability with other applications, interferences were easily detected and managed across multiple files. FBEAM — RAM Link fabsec ltd Fabsec, the leading expert in the field of plated beams, developed a link between its FBEAM Cellular Beam design software and Bentley’s RAM Structural System. By joining the productivity of the RAM Structural System design model and the expertise of Fabsec, structural engineers can now fully design an entire building with Fabsec beams. Engineers initially model Fabsec beams within the 3D RAM design model. Using the model browser integrated into FBEAM, members to be designed as Fabsec beams are selected graphically and, through the data exchange, FBEAM seamlessly links all pertinent information from the model. Once in Fabsec software, the process of designing Fabsec beams is virtually at a click of a button, and a process that previously took hours now takes seconds. 20 ThE YEAR IN INFRASTRUCTURE 2007
