The Year in Infrastructure 2007 - (Page 24) Bim fOr multiple disciplines Master Plan for Extension of Siemens Fabrication Facilities in China Kohlbecker architekten & ingenieure This project was the extension of an existing fabrication plant in Chuzhou, China, for refrigerators and finished and unfinished goods. The master plan combined accuracy and comprehensiveness for feasibility and different alternatives with the need to make the plan easy for high-level decision makers to understand. Decisions at this early project stage are mission critical and have an enormous effect not only on the building project, but also on the later operation of the facilities. Kohlbecker used Bentley’s integrated BIM solutions for 3D modeling, simulation, and visualization as well as plotting. The software’s interoperability eliminated the need for data conversions and fully supported the project’s iterative planning process — helping ensure project quality, facilitating the owner’s requests for changes, and saving project time. U.S. Army Reserve Training Center/AMSA/OMS mason & hanger group inc Mason & hanger was contracted to provide architectural and engineering services for a new 80,121-square-foot training building, 21,625-square-foot organizational maintenance shop, and 4,260-square-foot unheated storage building. The inspiration for the design of the U.S. Army Reserve training center came from local architecture in the surrounding area of Omaha, Nebraska. Use of Bentley Architecture, Bentley Structural, and Bentley Building Mechanical Systems resulted in a well-coordinated and quality BIM design process, from the design charrette through the design phases. The 3D visualization capabilities allowed the design team to view renderings of the whole building or just portions of the building by volume clipping, showing architectural components, structural columns and framing, locations of equipment, routing of ductwork, and piping to identify construction issues or interferences earlier. 24 ThE YEAR IN INFRASTRUCTURE 2007
