The Year in Infrastructure 2007 - (Page 37) 5D Construction seoul national university of technology The graduate school students of the Architecture Engineering Department of the Seoul National University of Technology (SNUT) created a construction procedure for the Language Academy building. SNUT students designed a 5D construction scenario and generated 3D design models that supported constructability review, procedure simulation, bills of material, and procurement management. The students used Bentley’s integrated BIM solutions from concept to operation. Automobile Plant of Kia Motors takenaka europe gmbh This challenging project involved building an automobile plant for Kia Motors in Slovakia, a new member country of the European Union. The Korean client required a new factory that would have a production capacity of 400,000 cars per year and a staff of 3,000. Total size of the site is 166 hectares, total building area is 236,548 square meters, and total floor area is 278,506 square meters. Several hundred team members were involved in the project and used MicroStation to create synchronization between high-quality design and the construction. The most significant efficiencies from the team’s use of Bentley solutions included fast drawing and effective communication with other formats of the document (including DWG).
