The Ohio River Bridges Project addresses long-term cross-river transportation in the Louisville-Southern Indiana region. The project is comprised of a new downtown bridge just east of the Kennedy Bridge (I-65), an east-end bridge about eight miles from downtown, and a rebuild to the south of the Kennedy Interchange where I-64, I-65, and I-71 converge in downtown Louisville. The major challenge of this project was the coordination of numerous engineering firms all working simultaneously on the design. ProjectWise enabled Baker to safely access, manage, and share files to a level not previously possible. For example, the client can comment and replace files directly into the assigned folders without relying on e-mail or hard copy. In addition, team members are able to access files from any computer via the Internet. BR 280 prosul proj superv planej ltda The São Francisco do Sul BR 101 project in Brazil will improve the traffic capacity of highway BR 280. In some parts, the existent roadway will be used, but other sections will require completely new roadway. The highway speed adopted was 110 kilometers per hour with a super-elevation maximum of 10 percent. With the assistance of MicroStation and GEOPAK, it was possible to automate routines that once were slow and complicated, and integrate the workflows of multiple departments, increasing overall productivity and reliability. Specifically, Prosul Proj Superv Planej experienced a productivity increase of approximately 30 percent. In addition, the software’s interoperability with other applications further streamlined workflows, and its 3D visualizations allowed the firm to make fantastic presentations to its clients. 58 ThE YEAR IN INFRASTRUCTURE 2007
