The Year in Infrastructure 2007 - (Page 69) Wiatraczna Street dhV polska sp. z o.o. Wiatraczna Street is a 2,000-meter section of the city center bypass in Warsaw, Poland. The main goal of the project is to enhance traffic flow by eliminating nonlocal traffic and improve safety on area streets. The project includes building the main road with two tunnels, each 60 meters long, together with local roads on both sides of the main road and four flyovers across railroads. Because the surrounding area is very urbanized, the main problem of the design is fitting it around existing buildings and streets. The visualizations generated using MicroStation and InRoads were helpful in elaborating the architectural details and enabled DhV Polska to detect inaccuracies. In addition, the 3D models are easier for the public and investors to understand than traditional 2D plans. Flagler Street Project florida dOt The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting a project development and environment study for the SR-968/ West Flagler Street/SW 1st Street Corridor. The proposal provides for operational, safety, and aesthetic improvements, including milling and resurfacing and upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Project cost is $9 million. MicroStation enabled collaborative work and guaranteed fully coordinated and integrated design. Spatial coordination and complete understanding of the interface between the building envelope and the services ducts was assured ahead of construction, significantly reducing risk and removing the high corrective costs associated with on-site clashes. Also, within FDOT’s addressing and parcel mapping systems and workflows, address/parcel mismatches were cut from more than 8,000 to 2,000. Savings totaled $4 million and two years in time.
