Previously, business was separated over multiple lift rises, staff was located in a mixture of offices and open workspaces, and the leadership team was isolated from the business. This project combines the best in sustainable design, engineering, information technology, and change management. With MicroStation and Bentley Architecture, the firm could leverage other types of software through importing and exporting of other file formats and better manage documentation processes and output through the use of enforceable CAD standards. Other benefits were the ability to task the right people with a job regardless of their location and allowing the firm to balance resources and better distribute workload. The result is Sovereign House, the first commercial building in New Zealand to use multi-service chilled beam technology rather than conventional air conditioning, providing a massive reduction in energy consumption and a substantially healthier environment for the building occupants. Bentley’s federated data model enabled the unique definition of work processes and made it easier to modularize and reuse building components. The versatility to handle both 2D and 3D data and the built-in capability to produce high-end renderings from within the one package meant that significant amounts of time were saved by eliminating the need to translate CAD data to and from different formats.
