The development, known as Lafayette Hills, is located 16 miles from downtown Manhattan. The topographically steep 10.6-acre site falls over 125 feet to a large environmentally sensitive wetland area at the bottom of the slope. Significant off-site sanitary sewer and water service improvements were needed. Bentley’s Haestad Methods product line was extensively utilized to model the water supply and distribution systems (WaterCAD), sanitary sewer systems (SewerCAD), and stormwater management systems (StormCAD). Once the roof form had been finalized using parametric capabilities provided by GenerativeComponents, the primary control wires were extracted to form the basis of the underlying structural model. Bentley Structural allowed easy remanipulation of the parametrically derived wireframe. The firm estimates that by iterating designs, modeling time was reduced 25 percent and steel tender costs were reduced by 11 percent. 2008 bE AwARdS oF ExCEllENCE ALSO NOMINATED IN SpEcIAL cATEgOry: ATTAININg rETurN ON INNOvATION SpEc EcIAL cATE rETurN ur INNOv 48
