The Year in Infrastructure 2008 - (Page 53) InnovatIon In CommerCIal or resIdentIal BuIldIng Windgroep bv Watervilla Drachten, Netherlands the goal of this project was to create a villa model to sell waterfront properties in Drachten on the east side of the Drait River in the Netherlands. The design centers on a Scandinavian theme and features water that surrounds the villa on the south and west sides, which can be seen upon entering the villa. The hallway and glass roof gives the villa a spacious feel. The design also integrates the boathouse into the architecture of the villa and a veranda that faces the west side of the waterfront provides an intimate feeling. The design team used MicroStation to build a 3D model to create visualizations, which enhanced the team’s ability to collaborate. The design team successfully delivered the project, largely due to its use of visuals and animation.
