The Year in Infrastructure 2008 - (Page 58) InnovatIon In IndustrIal FacIlItIes Alstom Projects India Limited Tan Jun Bin Kolkata, India the primary goal of this project was to calculate the stress and deflection of a large duct to assess its structural profile and confirm its plate thickness. Modeling proved difficult because three inside chambers required baffle plates for flow distribution. Without including these details, the project team initially had a difficult time limiting deflection values. Using STAAD.Pro, Alstom achieved expected results after conducting several trials with mesh generations and stiffener location optimization. Deploying Bentley’s integrated solutions gave Alstom the ability to manage the project within the given timeframe and budget, which resulted in a higher return on investment. Cadem Services needed a solution that supported SMP valves and SRC valves and could be deployed remotely. Though the Cadem team evaluated several piping engineering products, it found only Bentley software gave it the necessary multiport sanitary valves and fittings support to complete the project successfully. Cadem was able to complete the design from its offices in India using AutoPLANT and AutoPLANT Piping. 2008 bE AwARdS oF ExCEllENCE ALSO NOMINATED IN SpEcIAL cATEgOry: SuSTAININg Our SOcIETy SpEc EcIAL cATE Su c cIET 58
